Longwood Gardens Engagement

When it comes to capturing the essence of your pre wedding celebration or engagement photos, there’s no place quite like Longwood Gardens.

Nestled in the picturesque Brandywine Valley, this sprawling estate is one of my absolute favorite spots for a Lover’s Experience.

As a wedding photographer, I’m always on the lookout for places that offer both beauty and romance where we can create artistic photographs, and this is one of those places for it!

A Quick Look at The History of Longwood Gardens

Longwood Gardens has a rich history that dates back over 300 years. Originally, the land was inhabited by the Lenni Lenape tribe, and later it became part of a Quaker homestead in the 1700s.

The gardens we know today began to take shape when Pierre S. du Pont purchased the property in 1906. He was captivated by the beauty of the land and set out to create a garden that would inspire and delight visitors for generations.

Over time, he transformed the estate into the magnificent horticultural showcase it is today, blending natural beauty with intricate design.

Longwood Gardens has evolved through the decades, but it has always remained a place of wonder, where nature and art come together in perfect harmony.

Keep in mind that some of my wedding collections include Lover’s Experience to make your wedding journey incredible every step of the way. Find out more info here!

Why I Love Longwood Gardens

A Year-Round Wonderland

Wether you’re having a Longwood Gardens Engagement, or just a photo session to celebrate where you are in life and gift it to yourself, this location will give you plenty of options throughout the seasons.

Each Season Brings a different kind of Magic out

One of the things I love most about Longwood Gardens is how it transforms with the seasons. In spring, the gardens burst into life with blooming tulips and vibrant flowers.

Summer brings lush greenery and cool, shaded spots that are perfect for capturing intimate moments.

Fall is a dream. Just imagine the gardens glowing in shades of red, orange, and yellow.

And winter? It’s a wonderland of frost-kissed trees and serene, snow-covered paths. No matter the season, Longwood Gardens provides a stunning backdrop for your photos.

Special and Romantic Photo Locations

You can choose from the classic beauty of the Italian Water Garden to the vibrant colors of the Flower Garden Walk, there’s no shortage of breathtaking spots for your photos.

One of my personal favorites is the Open Air Theatre. It has beautiful fountains and manicured lawns, which make you feel like you’re in Versailles.

Pro tip: If we time it correctly, we’ll be able to enjoy the fountain show, which is a dream come true. Truly majestic!

Each location within the gardens offers a different vibe, allowing us to capture a variety of moods and moments. I see it as different scenes so we can really make the story come together.

Planning Your Engagement Day at Longwood Gardens

To truly get the most out of your photo shoot at Longwood Gardens, I recommend planning to spend at least three hours at the bare minimum.

This gives us plenty of time to explore different areas, take breaks, and really soak in the beauty of the gardens.

Plus, the relaxed pace ensures we’ll capture a diverse and beautiful collection of photos without feeling rushed, which is very important when it comes to having the final photos.

What to wear To Your Longwood Engagement Photo

Longwood Gardens is full of color, so I always suggest choosing outfits that complement the scenery. For spring and summer shoots, go for light, airy fabrics in pastel shades or floral prints.

Think flowy dresses, linen shirts, and soft hues like blush, lavender, or mint.

Remember: The more flowy, the more movement we’ll have and more romantic everything will look like.

Bringing out the Romanticism

If we’re doing your engagement at Longwood Gardens, it’s important to take into account how can we make it even more romantic, and clothes play a major part in it.

In the fall, rich tones like deep reds, burnt oranges, and mustard yellows work beautifully.

And in winter, cozy up in elegant layers—think long coats, scarves, and knitwear in neutral tones or jewel colors like emerald green or royal blue.

Consultation Call

When we have our consultation call, I will give you some tips, and I’ll also send you my style guide to give you even more ideas.

I’m only an e-mail away, and I’m happy to give you my input when you’re planning your outfits.

Comfort is Key
While it’s tempting to dress to the nines, remember that comfort is key, especially since we’ll be walking around the gardens.

Choose footwear that’s both stylish and practical—block heels or chic flats for her, and polished yet comfortable shoes for him. This way, you can move freely and enjoy your time in the gardens.

Coordinate Without Overdoing It
Couples often ask how to coordinate outfits without looking too matchy-matchy. A great tip is to choose complementary colors or outfits that share a similar tone.

For example, if one of you is wearing a floral dress with hints of blue, the other could wear a crisp blue shirt or a suit in a coordinating shade. This creates a harmonious look without being overly coordinated.

Add a Personal Touch with Accessories
Accessories and props can add that personal touch to your photos, but remember, less is more.

A delicate necklace, a stylish hat, or a classic watch can be the perfect finishing touch.

For winter shoots, consider cozy scarves or gloves that not only keep you warm but also add texture and interest to your photos.
