There’s something incredibly powerful about couples who intentionally choose time together over tradition — and Kirsten and Matt did exactly that.

Kirsten and Matt’s intimate wedding day in Downtown Pittsburgh was all about connection, presence, and artistry.

They wanted space to breathe, feel, and create photographs that would live as art for decades. That intention is exactly why they chose to hire me.

As a documentary and editorial wedding photographer in Pittsburgh, this is the kind of day I live for.

Getting Ready at the Omni William Penn Hotel in Downtown Pittsburgh

The day began quietly and beautifully at the historic Omni William Penn Hotel in Downtown Pittsburgh.

Kirsten got ready surrounded by soft light, architectural textures, and meaningful details.

I photographed her sentimental items — the kind of personal pieces that anchor a wedding day in memory — while the city moved gently outside the windows.

A First Look in the Urban Room | Art, Emotion, and Architecture

For their first look, we stepped into the hotel’s Urban Room. The ceiling alone feels like art — textured, dramatic, and timeless.

Between tears and laughter, Kirsten and Matt exchanged a few words, a heartfelt gift Kirsten had prepared for Matt, and a moment that felt entirely their own. No audience. No pressure. Just honesty and emotion.

What’s the beauty of intimate weddings? It’s about the moment.

A Modern Bride in Black | Choosing Yourself on Your Wedding Day

Kirsten wore a long, vintage-inspired black dress that was undeniably sexy, elegant, and powerful.

Kirsten is a modern bride. She didn’t want tradition for tradition’s sake. She wanted to feel like herself — confident, modern, and fully embodied. And she did.

Matt complemented her perfectly in a fitted suit that felt refined and effortless.

Together, they looked editorial, cinematic, and timeless — the kind of couple you’d expect to see in the pages of a magazine rather than following a checklist.

This is something I tell my couples often: your wedding doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. It just has to feel like you.

Editorial, Romantic Portraits Through Downtown Pittsburgh

One of the most meaningful parts of Kirsten and Matt’s wedding day happened between locations — during our unhurried walk through Downtown Pittsburgh, from the Omni William Penn Hotel to the Allegheny County Courthouse.

This is where time slowed. Where the city became a backdrop rather than a distraction. Where their connection took center stage.

Rather than rushing from point A to point B, we allowed space for editorial, romantic, high-art portraits to unfold naturally.

The architecture, the texture of the streets, the way the light wrapped around them — Downtown Pittsburgh offered a cinematic setting that felt timeless and grounded.

We moved through the city together and I was able to photograph their true moments. It was beautiful to see how Matt and Kirstedn exchanged quiet glances, laughter, and moments of stillness.

At Natalia Baqueiro Photography we make art that is rooted in movement, emotion, and design. Photos will reflect not just how you looked, but how it feels.

When my couples book me for their wedding, we talk about how they want to remember the day. And as an artist, I want to make sure we go in a very intentional way about their wedding experience. That’s how the story unfolds authentically.

No interruptions. No performance. Just two people, the city they love, and photographs created with care — meant to live on as pieces of art long after the day itself has passed.

We have one of the most beautiful and unique courthouses in the country. The Allegheny County Courthouse has Romanesque arches, dramatic staircases, and soft natural light — an absolute dream for couples who value art and history.

They opted for a self-uniting ceremony, officiated by Matt’s sister, surrounded by their closest family members.

Self-Uniting Marriage Licenses in Pennsylvania: What Couples Should Know

Pennsylvania is one of the few states that allows couples to legally marry without an officiant.

  • Self-Uniting Marriage License – No officiant required; the couple marries themselves with two witnesses.
  • Civil Ceremony – Performed by a judge or courthouse official.
  • Officiated Ceremony – Led by a religious or non-religious officiant.

If you value intimacy, autonomy, and meaning, a self-uniting ceremony might be for you and your babe.

After their ceremony, we spent intentional time creating romantic, editorial portraits throughout the courthouse.

No rushing. No crowds. Just them, the architecture, and the story unfolding naturally.

Including Your Home and Pets in an Intimate Wedding Day

We had to do an important stop at their home and we did, because pets are family.

Kirsten and Matt wanted photographs with their black cats, who are such an important part of their lives.

Remember, this is an experience, not a phot shoot.

I believe your pets are your family and with whom you spend your time the most, so why not include them?

An Intimate Wedding Reception at Monterey Bay in Mt. Washington

The day ended at Monterey Bay in Mt. Washington, overlooking the Pittsburgh skyline. Cocktails, cake, laughter, and their favorite people — everything felt effortless and elevated.

We created sexy, cinematic images at the bar and then stepped outside for skyline portraits with the city glowing behind them. Pittsburgh showed up for them in the most romantic way.

A Wedding Day Designed Around Presence, Art, and Time

Kirsten and Matt’s wedding day is a reminder that intimacy is its own form of luxury.

The idea was to slow down, to be present, and to create space for moments that feel real — It allows me to document moments that are honest and timeless in an artistic form.

As a documantery photographer based out of Pittsburgh, I love to document real and authentic moments. The moments we lived for!

My style as a documentary photographer is to have a mix of direction and natural unfolding. My purpose is for the photographs to feel like art. I don’t like rushing or to overly direct, but have an environment where things happen naturally.
