When it comes to planning the perfect wedding, the season can play a significant role in setting the tone and creating a memorable experience. Summer, with its warm weather and longer days, offers numerous advantages for couples seeking to tie the knot in a joyous and picturesque atmosphere. In this blog post, we’ll explore the top reasons why having your wedding during the summer can be an ideal choice.
As a wedding photographer, I must admit my obsession with documenting weddings at any time of the year, and I don’t think you can blame me. What’s life without love?! Yeap. I Agree—nothing!
I can go on and on about the rush of adrenaline, the raw emotions, the stories you get to see unfold right in front of you, the details, and the work of so many amazing vendors coming together to celebrate the union of two people in love, but I’ll leave all of those details for another time.
It doesn’t matter whether it’s summer, spring, winter or fall, a wedding is always a celebration! One of my favorite things about Pennsylvania is that with every season we get new scenery and a brand new opportunity to make a weddings something unique, timeless and romantic. However, summer weddings hit differently.
Ever since I moved to Pittsburgh from Florida, I understood the value Summers have.
We long for them the entire year—for good reasons, and when we finally get these warmer months, we’re happy, warm, and thrive with the long days full of light, of lush trees, birds chirping and many holidays to have an excuse to go by the water with friends and family, but better yet: To GET MARRIED!!!
Here in Pittsburgh we definitely cherish the summer months like rare butterflies we must hold carefully or else they fly away! The weekends of the month when we can book weddings are limited, but having a summer wedding is worth the hype, let me tell you why!
That’s right the longest days of the year are in June so anytime around the summer months you’ll get plenty natural light for hours on end, which makes it perfect for an endless day to celebrate tying the knot!
You don’t have to worry about how early the sun will set, which gives you more flexibility throughout the day to plan your day however you envision it. For example, having your ceremony in the late afternoon and the reception later in the evening. As the sun is setting your guests can be enjoying cocktail hour while you take some time with your hubby to watch the sunset and take incredible bridal portraits.
Or, if you’re the ultimate early bird, you can plan a morning wedding with the reception happening at brunch or an early lunch so the wedding is over by 2 p.m., to go off and take the other half of the day to be with your hubby all alone or get ready to leave to your honeymoon.
That’s the thing about having a summer wedding, you have so many options to plan your day however you’d like best.
As many of us, wedding gown designers also love summers, and they get inspired to do beautiful, timeless gowns with so many different models and designs. Some of the most popular dresses feature sleeveless and strapless necklines, over the shoulder options, as well as princess cuts, or a dress that shows your naked back, but truly the list is endless. Whatever your choice, you’ll most likely be comfortable and beautiful!
If anything, you’ll be a little hot on your wedding day, which is not a problem at all, because that just means you need to slow down and take a break on your busy day. There are many designers that make wedding gowns with breathable fabrics, which will help you keep you cooler during the hottest hours of the day.
There are some fabulous lovely outdoor venues that will just highlight your day! Barns are usually a great option in the summer months because they really do go all out and have special places for guests to mingle, and sometimes they can set up the ceremony by a lake, or a water fountain which just brings everything together. Country clubs, botanical gardens and hotels by the river usually have pretty outdoor spaces designated for the warmer summer months.
If you happen to be in Pennsylvania, I would strongly recommend doing your wedding at Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York, Pennsylvania – The venue is not only beautiful and elegant, but the staff are incredibly helpful and amazing with everybody to make sure the wedding is the best that it can be!
You can also have your wedding at the park or in a forest surrounded by nature and all your loved ones. Again, it all comes down to picking the best option, because there are endless ways to celebrate your summer wedding.
Summer is the best season for…You guessed it! Flowers!
If you are a bride who is excited about flowers, summer is the perfect time for you to plan a wedding with plenty of floral details. The most popular wedding flowers–lilies, gardenias, and carnations, are in full bloom during summer.
This is not only eco-conscious and great to the environment because you’ll have access to flowers that are in season making it easier and more accessible to your florist to get them, instead of having them shipped from greenhouses in other parts of the world, where they bloom at the given time.
So one more reason to have your wedding in the summer is to explore locally available and seasonal flowers and having ample variety to choose from!
When it comes to food, summer is one of those seasons when we have fresh and Seasonal Food. If you want to have fresh fruit to go along cocktail hour fresh, or local produce ti go along your main course, summer is your season! From colorful fruit displays to refreshing cocktails, summer cuisine can tantalize your guests’ taste buds.
Summer wedding colors are inspired by the season’s sun-filled days, laid-back vibes, and warm climate. Think different shades of pinks, bright, bold colors yellows, show-stopping oranges, and calming blues and purples.
You can choose to incorporate these types of colors into the overall wedding décor as well as into the wedding attire.
One of the latest summer trends, which I’m totally in for, have been the mismatched bridesmaid dresses. They can be so beautiful and original. In the photo below you’ll see how elegant and subtle they can be to emphasize the wedding gown of the bride.
I’m sure you’ve heard about sparkling exit and how beautiful those turn out, but have you heard of bubble exits?! Especially if your wedding is ending when there’s still light outside, which might be the case, especially if you choose to do an earlier reception to have the evening for yourself, you can pull off an awesome bubble exit and it’s not only very fun for everybody, but joyful!
